The Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry Co. (SRICI) is a well-known Chinese chemical industry enterprise that is mainly engaged in the research & development of energy, new materials and equipment. Combining R&D with industry-related services, the institute supports the upgrading of traditional industries and the development of new industries by focusing on advanced materials, bio-medicine, public safety, energy conservation and environmental protection.

SRICI, a long-time strategic partner of the Compass Ventures Group, whose comprehensive portfolio focuses on green technology, environmental protection (soil, water and waste treatment technology), agricultural technology, aquaculture, energy technology, homeland security as well as a variety of other technologies.

The SRICI delegation during its visit in Israel

In May, a joint Compass-SRICI delegation visited Israel in order to assess different strategic opportunities while looking for innovative and specialized technologies in the local market. The delegation was led by Dr. Ronen Dagon, Chairman of Compass Ventures, Mr. Moshe Kamar, CEO of Compass Ventures, Mr. Chen Baohua, Vice President of Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry Co. (SRICI) and Mr. Shang Zhaocong, Director of Soil Environmental Remediation Engineering Technology Center (SERETC) at SRICI. The delegation was also comprised of upper management and a specialized technical team from SRICI’s Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Sector (ECAEPS). ECAEPS is primarily focused on environmental assessment and purification technologies, including soil restoration, VOC treatment, gas purification, industrial waste liquid treatment and recovery, and solid waste treatment.

The delegation was hosted in Israel by Compass-LDD, a key subsidiary of Compass Ventures and a pioneer in the environmental industry, with 18 years of professional experience in the remediation industry. Compass-LDD is one of the largest and most innovative professional soil and groundwater remediation service providers in the world, and has implemented over 75% of the remediation projects in Israel.

The delegation was welcomed by the CEO of Compass-LDD, Dr. Raphi Mandelbaum and its Business Director, Gal Mandelbaum. Together, they visited the Neot Hovav Ecological Industrial Park, which represents a unique model for sustainable industry in Israel. The park employs over 4,000 employees in 23 factories, provides a living for over 6,000 families in the Negev region, and exports the equivalent of 3 billion US dollars per year.

During the visit the delegation met with Mr. Andrei Uzan, Head of Council and Chairman of Neot Hovav, and with Mr. Amnon Ben Dahan, CEO of the Neot Hovav Ecological Industrial Park. They delegation was given a detailed introduction on the history, vision and model of the park, while visiting a comprehensive wastewater treatment center, various technological labs dedicated to environmental protection, and additional technologically innovative facilities that deal with VOC and Industrial Waste Liquid treatment.

After visiting the south of Israel, the delegation centered on the Tel-Aviv area, where it visited different sites and cutting-edge technologically advanced companies. The Compass-LDD team of experts shared additional trends and work in progress projects in the fields of salted land upgrading, groundwater remediation, thermal soil remediation and soil bioremediation.

The Compass-SRICI delegation expressed great satisfaction from their visit to Israel and the time spent with the Compass-LDD team. The Vice President of SRICI, Mr. Chen Baohua, said he was amazed by the range of environmental protection projects and technologies he was exposed to, while recognizing Compass-LDD’s great sense of expertise and knowledge, which allowed the delegation to have first-hand access to advanced projects and innovative technologies, while networking with Israel’s top technology experts.

Dr. Ronen Dagon, Chairman of Compass Ventures added that the near future holds many paths of collaboration between SRICI and Compass-LDD. He added there is great potential specifically around the fields of on advanced materials, bio-medicine, public safety, energy conservation and environmental protection, which Israel is globally recognized for its advanced developments and unique technologies.

Mr. Moshe Kamar, CEO of Compass Ventures added that there possibilities are limitless and that he wishes to invite many of the Israeli companies they visited to China, so that they could better understand the growing Chinese market and its many opportunities.
